Holey, Wholly, Holy
My name is Jo Dietz (she/her). I am an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church. A deacon creates bridges between the world and the church. I worked in the church for many years, but I was always seeking those who did not feel comfortable within the church walls. So I took a radical step and asked to be appointed to serve out in the community – specifically through my neighbor’s fledgling bakery, Bagel Joy. (Currently found at local markets in Northern VA)
My prayer is that I can find a safe place for those who have been harmed by the church in a myriad of ways (because of sexual identity, disability, age – you name it) to come together and discover their spiritual foundation. I don’t really care if you call that foundation God or are a Christian, as long as you realize that I may use God language because that’s how I identify to my own spirituality. The whole point is that we accept one another however we believe as we learn and grow together.
So, I hope you’ll join me in discovery, be it through this blog, during one of our online conversations, through one of our serve opportunities, or in person while in line waiting for bagels!
